There have been few surprises so far. All of the teams involved are worthy of a place in the finals. However, Ukrainian organisation Na`Vi missing out came as a shock. They are usually a certainty for the tournament, but failed to qualify for the qualifiers this time around.
Dota 2 The International 2018 details
Team will now have approximately two months to prepare for the finals. The International 2018 will get underway on 20 August and run for five days, concluding on 25 August.
This will be the first time that The International is held in Canada. The tournament will take place at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia.
As things stand, teams are set to compete for a $16m prize pool according to The International Prize Pool Tracker. However, this is likely to be above the $20m mark by the time the tournament gets underway. The tournament, organised by Valve, is funded by the sale of in-game items, which players can buy to follow and support the tournament.
The International 2017 offered the largest prize in esports history, with a total prize pool of $24.3m. However, The International 2018 isn’t likely to beat the previous record. As things stand, it is on track to fall short by around 10%, or $2.4m.
